2025 Leadership School

2025 Leadership conference 1st Year

Three of us attended the week-long leadership conference. It is part of a 3-year series of training weeks and incredibly valuable.  Not only did we explore different approaches to and types of leadership, but we also the value of each and ways to successfully incorporate those styles into dealing with management at AA. We also learned about the origins of CWA, the Railway Labor Act and had a crash course in Gender Equity.  There was a mock arbitration- so we were able to get the inside scoop on when things like our grievances go to the highest level of arbitration. One of the most valuable things outside of the conference content was interacting with folks in MIA res and RDU reservations. Not only that but we were able to dig deep into contract issues with airport and baggage agents as well.

Another great take-away was seeing folks from other unions (airline/telecom/colleges) sending members who are not the leadership positions but instead were active stewards, active committee chairs, new E-board members.  It was a real mixed bag of participants and it showed how different D3 locals build up their members' talents and, ultimately, those members become more active in the greater CWA organization.
