2026 CWA District 3 Conference

The CWA District 3 Meeting was held from August 31 to September 2, 2026 in FLL 

Featuring a variety of labor leaders, legislative updates, and committee reports. 

Several Florida political candidates and labor advocates addressed the delegates:

  - David Jolly: Florida Gubernatorial Candidate.

  - Angie Nixon: Candidate for Florida US Senate and former State Rep, who advocated for bringing call centers back and supported the PRO Act.

  - Annette Taddeo: Candidate for Florida Chief Financial Officer, who discussed fighting the insurance crisis.

  - Jose Javier Rodriguez: Candidate for Florida Attorney General, who spoke on public safety issues including drugs and social media, and addressed Medicare fraud.

District and National Leadership Updates

  - Richard Honeycutt (VP District 3): Thanked the executive board and local boards, emphasizing a family-oriented union culture regardless of political affiliation.

  - Claude Cummings (CWA President): Expressed gratitude to the Piedmont bargaining committee for the recently signed contract and highlighted the impact of the first core union strike in 25 years.

  - Ameenah Salaam (CWA Secretary-Treasurer): Reported that 10% of the annual budget ($8.8 million) is now dedicated to organizing. She also noted an ongoing ICAP audit that began in July 2025.

  - Jon Schleuss (NewsGuild-CWA President): Celebrated a three-year victory for the Pittsburgh Gazette and noted the growth of unionized newsrooms in Florida from zero to 11.

Committee and Operational Reports

  - Passenger Service Breakout: Tom Gunning (Director of Passenger Service) provided updates on Envoy bargaining, noting challenges with the current grievance process. Donielle Prophet reported on the Piedmont contract vote, which concluded on September 2nd.

  - Civil Rights & Equity: Errol Minor emphasized that solidarity requires courage and that all human rights issues are labor work.

  - Financial Safeguards (DOL): Robert Weaver led a session on internal financial controls, advising locals to avoid debit cards, maintain clear travel reimbursement policies, and ensure dual signatures on checks.

  - Credentials: Marva Gardner reported a total of 208 delegates in attendance.

Awards and Recognition

  - Woman of the Year: The Women’s Committee presented the Karen J. Murphy Woman of the Year award to Rhochanda McAdams (Passenger Services Local 3140).

  - Drum Major for Justice: The 2026 award was presented to Glenda Abicht.

  - Scholarships: Two scholarships of approximately $800 each were awarded to Kaylah Weaver and Sydney Grant.
